Invests in the Lives of Young Students

The American Savings Foundation of New Britain recently awarded a $25,000 grant to Klingberg Family Centers Extended Day Treatment Program. The Foundation’s strong commitment to New Britain and surrounding communities is evidenced in their generous support of programs benefiting the lives of children, youth and families.

Extended Day Treatment is an after school program serving boys and girls ages 5-12 who are struggling with behavioral health issues which place them at-risk of being removed from their families. Klingberg Family Centers President Rosemarie Burton says, “We are deeply grateful the American Savings Foundation recognizes the value of providing therapeutic after school programming for young students. Each of these children is worth the investment of time and treatment to help them through their difficulties.”

The program is designed to engage the family in treatment and provide structured, clinically sound care to children during the hours after school, as well as school vacation times. All of these children currently attend New Britain schools and live at home with their families. Our goal is to strengthen the family by teaching skills, providing therapy and offering treatment that will allow children to remain at home and function more effectively.

Children participate in skill building groups (i.e. Feelings Identification and Expression/Coping Skills; Anger Management; Peer Relationships; Relaxation Skills; and basic hygiene and daily living competencies) and are encouraged to experience the value of healthy, age appropriate play through Project Joy.

American Savings President and CEO David Davison stated in his recent letter, “More than ever, we will direct our funding towards those well-designed programs with measurable outcomes that show positive impact on people and communities.” We are pleased to be among those programs.
