True Coalescence
Artists Susan Clinard and Nicole van Axx may create very different art, but both understand the power of creativity and artistic expression and how they can inspire youth.
On February 27, 2010, the Kehler Liddell Gallery in New Haven hosted “Coalescence,” an Art Show and evening of entertainment to benefit Klingberg Family Centers Performing and Fine Arts programs as well as the Soroptimist Club of Greater New Haven. The successful event was attended by more than a hundred arts lovers who are friends of the two organizations.
Klingberg understands the value in combining resources with other nonprofits to make an event more special than what one organization can do alone. “We were thrilled with the gallery’s support and the opportunity to partner with Soroptimist and raise awareness for both groups,” said Rosemarie Burton, President of Klingberg Family Centers and member of the Soroptimist Club. “Inviting caring people who want to make a difference to meet others who share that goal is a wonderful way to make new things happen.”
Klingberg’s Raymond Hill School African Drumming Troupe added to the festivities with their music. “I was nervous at first,” confessed one of the students, “but once we started drumming, I realized how much better it was to play for an audience instead of just in class. It’s way better.”

Susan Clinard shared their enthusiasm, “It’s amazing to me how just a spark of an idea can change a child’s life as they discover what they are capable of. It was my pleasure to support Coalescence as it ties to my early career as a child care worker with foster children and then my years teaching art to inner city youth in Chicago. I think it is important to make room in your current career, whatever it may be, to benefit others. ”
